When Should You Replace a Battery?

One of our most common repairs, this issue usually starts to appear after 2-3 years, and continues to show up in our service center until the device is around 6-7 years old. In terms of lifespan, a battery is designed for 2-3 years, and newer operating systems roughly indicate the current capacity of the battery in the Settings > Battery > Battery Health menu. Typically, users notice that something is wrong with the device when the battery capacity is around 80%, which means that battery replacement might be the solution.

Other common symptoms that may indicate a battery issue include:

  • • The device turns off in cold weather; the number of these repairs increases significantly in winter.
  • • The battery swells and starts pushing out the screen (immediate replacement is recommended as it could damage the tablet).
  • • Sudden shutdowns at certain battery percentages, when launching apps, or under heavier load.
  • • The iPad can't be charged, or it only works when plugged in (this could indicate a more serious issue, which can only be determined after more thorough testing of the device).
