Key information regarding the repair

Just like with screen replacements, the most important aspect of battery replacement is sourcing the right parts. There are countless manufacturers on the market offering subpar batteries. Our job is to purchase and install the highest quality components currently available, in order to spare our customers from frustration. We have the necessary experience and network to do this reliably.

When should we have a battery replaced?

"This service is among our most common repairs. Typically, a model starts appearing more frequently with this issue after about 2 years, and continues to show up regularly in our service center until it’s around 4–5 years old.

In terms of lifespan, a battery is designed to last around 2 years. Newer operating systems provide an approximate indication of the battery's current capacity in the Settings > Battery > Battery Health menu. Generally, users start to notice that something isn’t right with the device when the capacity drops to around 80%. In such cases, a battery replacement can be the solution.

In addition, the most common issues that may indicate a battery problem:

  • The phone shuts off in cold weather; during the winter season, the number of these repairs significantly increases.
  • The battery bulges and starts pushing out the display (immediate replacement is recommended, as it can damage the phone).
  • Unexpected shutdowns at certain battery percentages, when launching apps, or under heavy load.
  • The phone cannot be charged, or it only works when plugged into the charger (unfortunately, this could indicate a more serious issue, which may only be revealed after thorough testing of the device).

Why does the quality of an iPhone battery matter?

A few years ago, Apple practically started trying to make out-of-warranty service centers impossible, and of course, parts manufacturers as well, which is why they continuously implement software checks in the phones. This applies not only to batteries but also to displays and other modules.

The market is flooded with cheap, horribly low-quality and poorly made batteries, where practically every important component has been cut. These are the most common, and most Hungarian wholesalers mainly sell these because there is demand for them in most service centers. Since iPhone repair shops have been popping up like mushrooms, lacking history, experience, and references, they are able to survive through price competition, which is why they clearly purchase the cheapest batteries.

These can primarily be compared to aftermarket (exploding) chargers—the principle is the same: leave out all protective and charging control electronics and hope it doesn’t explode while charging. While the battery itself doesn’t explode like some chargers, it can burn and smoke if punctured, and it can swell, pressing against and damaging the phone (causing serious internal damage), and it can even ruin the motherboard.

We strongly do not recommend these cheap batteries that cost only a few thousand forints, and we do not use them either.

The various quality levels of batteries available on the market

Cheap Chinese

(Aftermarket batteries with a wholesale price of 1–2 thousand HUF) — there are countless versions of these, but for simplicity, let’s refer to them as Chinese no-name manufacturers. Don't be misled by the term 'no-name'—it doesn't mean they produce in small quantities. They churn out millions of units made from junk each month, then simply shut down, relocate, and restart production under a new name to avoid any accountability. These batteries can appear in any packaging and with any labeling, unfortunately misleading unprepared or cost-cutting repair shops.

Refurbished batteries

(There was a time when practically only these were usable among all the options available on the market—thankfully, those days are over and better solutions now exist.) There have been countless versions of these: battery cell replaced, flex cable replaced, software-reset, simply re-packaged, etc. etc. It’s honestly a nightmare just thinking back on it all.

High-quality aftermarket batteries

The third and also the best option is new batteries made by reputable manufacturers who continuously follow and keep up with Apple’s software checks. They have strict quality control, a solid history in battery production, and cannot afford to lose their customer base—so they do everything they can to ensure quality. Unfortunately, like most things that actually work, these are also being counterfeited.

New factory iPhone batteries

(They are available in limited quantities and for a limited time with the new models. Unfortunately, Apple has also been restricting their use recently through built-in verification and disabling strategies in their phones, which we’ve already mentioned above.)

What should you pay attention to when replacing a battery?

Since it's impossible for a layperson to distinguish between a good and a bad battery just by looking at them, even experienced technicians need to test them extensively over time to gather the important information.

There’s no reliable way to verify battery quality through software or hardware tools anymore, because manufacturers know what kind of information these tools check and have found ways to deceive them. As a result, data such as charge cycles, capacity, authenticity, or manufacturer details—which used to be informative a few years ago—no longer provide trustworthy insights.

There’s really only one piece of advice we can give to those looking for a repair service: consciously seek out the best and most experienced repair shops. Do your research—look at customer reviews, quality indicators, and reputation. Choose well-established, long-standing service providers. Visit the shop in person, walk past it, and if something feels off, look elsewhere. Don’t rely on ads—they can be misleading. Flashy phrases and polished texts can spread overnight. Claims like “10 years of experience,” “only original parts used” (yeah, right!), or “lowest prices guaranteed” are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to trendy forms of deception.

Recommendations are a key part of choosing a repair service, as there are a vast number of devices in circulation, and a significant portion of them have already been serviced at some point. This means there is already a substantial base of customer experience in the public domain, and it’s well worth relying on that when making a decision.

Why is battery replacement so complicated?

A few years ago, Apple essentially started trying to make out-of-warranty repairs impossible, and, of course, this also affects parts manufacturers. That’s why they continuously implement software checks in their phones. This is not only true for batteries, but also for displays and other modules.

This would certainly make sense as long as it’s truly done to protect iPhone owners from low-quality parts and, at the same time, from unskilled damage. Unfortunately, in this case, it's not about that—it's simply about profit-making.Reading more...

This can be most easily proven by taking two new iPhone XS devices (from a factory-unopened condition, for simplicity) and replacing their batteries, yet the phones still don’t function properly. Currently, we don't even replace batteries for devices newer than the iPhone X because the new software restricts functionality when a battery is replaced. This approach seems pointless on Apple’s part and can be considered infuriating, especially in a market (Eastern Europe) where there is no established official repair network.

It may feel like Apple simply doesn’t consider Eastern Europe a market, despite the fact that in Hungary alone, there are over 1 million iPhones in circulation. Each of these devices will eventually need a battery replacement, as their batteries are designed to last around two years (which, in many cases, can be even less).

Our goal is the maximum satisfaction of our customers.

As a market leader repair service, we are able to provide the highest quality batteries, offering a solution without compromises. Our technicians have many years of experience, so the quality of the repairs is unquestionable.
